TrailSense is an offline-first hiking and cycling assistant. In short: your activity, route and health data stays on your device. We have no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no server that stores your data.
Saved locally on your iPhone and Apple Watch, never transmitted to us or any third party: hike/ride sessions (GPS route, distance, duration, speed, elevation), calories, steps, pace, heart rate, SpO₂, HRV, plant discoveries and photos, your profile, goals, achievements and emergency contacts. Delete it anytime in Settings → Clear all data, or by deleting the app.
On Apple Watch, TrailSense reads your heart rate via HealthKit during a workout and relays it to your paired iPhone to show live stats. This data stays on your own devices, is never sent to any server, and is never used for advertising, marketing or data-mining.
To provide maps, weather and trails, the minimum necessary data is sent to these services when you use those features. None require an account or identify you, and we do not store what is sent.
| Service | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo | Approximate coordinates | Weather & elevation |
| OpenFreeMap / Esri / OpenStreetMap / Waymarked Trails | Map tile requests (the area you view) | Rendering the map |
| Overpass (OpenStreetMap) | Country code only | Listing hiking trails |
When you trigger SOS, the app opens your device’s Messages or WhatsApp with a prefilled message (including your location, if available) addressed to the contacts you chose. TrailSense does not send these messages itself and does not transmit your contacts anywhere.
No user accounts or login. No analytics, tracking or advertising SDKs. No third-party data sharing or selling. No cloud storage of your data.
The camera is used to photograph plants and to measure heart rate (PPG). Photo-library access is used only when you pick an existing photo. The app declares microphone access because the camera component links audio APIs, but it never records audio.
Heart rate, SpO₂ and related readings are fitness estimates, not medical measurements, and must not be used for diagnosis or treatment.
TrailSense is not directed at children under 13.
